4 Months with Lila Lee

4 Months with Lila Lee Lilies and Lambs

Happy first Monday of 2020! The holidays are officially over, and we’re easing back into the swing of things over here. This sweet babe turned four months old today, and I can’t believe how quickly time seems to have flown by. While the first few months were filled with that newborn fog, we are now in that sweet phase where life begins to settle; where sleep isn’t so scarce, and our new normal is beginning to feel, well, a little more normal.

I mentioned before {here} and {here} that my transition from one to two was a bit harder than I had anticipated. I had forgotten how trying the fourth trimester can be- how much we really rely on sleep and routine; and how challenging it would be to adjust to sharing my attention between two tiny humans. But as time has gone on, and with a little rest and a whole lot of patience, we’ve hit our stride. And I’m so grateful to be beginning this new decade with my little girl gang.

Here are a few thoughts on four months with LL:

On Nature

From the moment I first laid eyes on this girl, I felt like I knew exactly who she was- and who she’s going to be. I had a hunch, really from conception, that she would have her sweet, sensitive temperament. And over the last few months, as more of her personality shines through, I’ve never been more sure. Her demeanor is so calm, and has been from the second she was born. She’s sensitive, and quietly emotional. And I feel so connected to her kind spirit. She came to us unexpectedly, when we had stopped trying; and she arrived on her due date- being the prompt little Virgo she is. She gave me very little trouble in those 40 weeks. And when she finally arrived, she was calm and wide-eyed and somehow, her soul comforted me in that delivery room. I know so much of who we become is from nurture; but man, nature is one heck of a force.

on postpartum fitness

Well, shit. Getting back into shape this time around has proven to be a challenge. I’m not sure if it’s because I now have two, or because she was born right before the holidays, or because I had gained so much more weight this pregnancy… But it has been hard getting back into a fitness groove. That said, I decided to dust of my Peloton treadmill after Christmas and take a few classes. So far, working out at home as been a total game-changer- I’m able to sneak in a quick sweat sesh while the baby naps or before bed when Phil gets home. And I love that this program offers such a variety of classes to choose from- with varying lengths and levels of difficulty- so it’s been perfect for easing back into a routine. Slowly but surely.

On Necessities

Aside from sleep and coffee, there are a few must-haves we’ve relied on with baby number two. Being a second-time girl mom, there were a few that I knew we would need from the start: sleep sacks and bottles and Dreft to name a few. But there were a few that I discovered only this time around that were total necessities- hi, Aquaphor.

Here are a few of our current must-haves:
