Home Office Details

Ok, friends. Here it is. The room I so desperately wanted to wallpaper against Phil’s wishes.
In the end, I gave in; and we opted for a glossy light yellow over the floral prints I was so drawn to. And I have to say, I think he was right.

As you may remember, the one non-negotiable I had for this room was the presence of the chairs- hand stitched heirlooms graciously handed down to me from my mom. I’ve loved them for so long, and I was thrilled to be able to place them somewhere special in our new home.

So the walls, much like the rest of the room, were based off the chairs- and we leaned into their sunny yellow glory.

I chose the rug because the reds and pinks played off of the needlepoint florals and leant a more bohemian feel to otherwise traditional pieces.

The woven brown desk chair compliments the wooden arms, and brings a brightness to the black desk.

The artwork in the room, similarly, combines old and new; serious and kitsch. The oils paintings framed in more opulent gold frames, again, are from my childhood home. I have such a fondness for them, but I don’t take myself or this room too seriously, so I added a few botanical prints from Home Goods and a portrait of Bill Murray- a Christmas gift from my brother, who knows me too well- to lighten it up, as one does.

The fig tree not only came with us from Connecticut, but also made the 14 hour drive with us, as well. And I love that there’s so much history between us, and that she’s still alive. She lives in a boho basket that we’ve had for sometime, and love the color combination in this space.

The hand-painted cane side table was found on a family adventure in South Carolina at a local antique shop, and I topped it with an antique bowl filled with match books from our favorite spots around the country.

The bar cart is another piece I got locally as a result of a giveaway. It’s a beautiful combination of gold hardware and dark grey leather. It’s the perfect home for some of my most prized possessions- a framed picture of my girls, my father’s briefcase, high school year books and a photo of late grandfather in all his football glory.
